The Magician And The Uniparty Scam
Imagine a busy street corner where a "magician" is running the "uniparty" scam on people. He takes peoples bets on card tricks that are rigged in advance.
Gradually and then suddenly, the crowd gets wise. People begin to talk about calling in the police. The "magician" knows that he has to stay ahead of the crowd, or otherwise just pack up and run.
So he has a backup plan to stay ahead of the crowd. He has a plant or shill, someone working with him, point out his deception, and while he at first objects vehemently and accuses the shill of all kinds of things, he then admits "everything" and proceeds to let the shill supervise the show and thereby regain everyone's trust. But the game goes on as crooked as before.
Sort of like the "magicians" this well connected economist represents, and their shill, Donald Trump:
